Summer on desk'
Is the rise in the temperature playing a (sartorial) spoiler? Worry not, for, the city’s fashion frat lets us in on trending summer wear looks you can sport –at the boardroom and for the time beyond!
“Summer 2017 is going to witness a major ‘70s and ‘80s revival in terms of fashion. If you’re looking for ideas on how to put together a slick look for work, pair striped pants – and not the boring grey and white ones, look for stripes in blues, mustard, white and pair it with a shirt with either rounded shoulders or big shoulders.
If you plan on keeping it subtle, look for pleated pieces. It could be a skirt or even a shirt which has a pleated effect in fabrics like cotton or linen. Pair it with either a floral top or bottom or go for bright solids,” opines Nishka Naidu, a city-based fashion stylist and personal shopper.
Enthusing how the sunny season calls for experimentation, she adds, “I would also recommend playing around with metallics. You can always pair a black or grey metallic skirt with a crisp white or baby pink shirt. And you’re well on your way to power dressing at the workplace.”
The scorching sun also offers the discerning fashionista a plethora of colours to pick from. “Summer time is the best to play around with a riot of bright, in-your-face pop of colours! Mustard, electric blues, cobalt and powerful metallic shades will reign supreme in the months to come,” adds womens wear designer Prerana Sarkar.
Hinting at how baring ‘em a little shouldn’t be a bad idea, this summer, city designer Michelle Salins enthuses, “I think one of the hottest summer trends is bare shoulders. From tops with frills to dresses with jumpsuits, the one thing to consider is the bare shoulder look.”
To those wondering how to carry to the workplace, Michelle advises, “If you plan on wearing off-shoulders to office, make sure it is a crisp white blouse paired with a navy or black pin stripe trouser or flares. Let the hemline reach above the ankle or keep it 3/4. If you’re teaming it with a skirt, opt for a pin stripe top and solid deep colour skirt. Remember to keep things minimal, though.”
