Making the right cut

The key to show your curves and expose is to know your body type.

Dare to come undone? ‘Tis the season to flash your shoulders, your back, abs or your décolletage in style as you make way for subtle exposure. Monsoon calls for some naughty dressing, so why not reveal those zones that aren’t so obvious or have ruled the style charts before like a thigh high slit or a backless dress? No, that’s passé. Go in for delicate cuts that reveal those obliques or the outer curves of the shoulders. Look chic with these peek-a-boo, lovelies!

The key to show your curves and expose is to know your body type. Having good skin is important, especially when you’re revealing your skin. Don’t we all love parties; we host them, attend them, and then revel in them along the way. So why not do it in style? Kangana Ranaut, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhat or our Bengaluru lass Deepika Padukone have carried this trend and have looked smouldering hot. If you want to make heads turn and look stylish at the next soiree then follow our style guide on how to make the look work.

Bengaluru based fashion designer Michelle Salins, states, “The peek-a-boo trend is extremely sensuous! It works great on bodies when the silhouette is classic and feminine and this little skin show adds the sensuality to the garment. I would love to call it pretty and cheeky at the same time. One of my favourites in my wardrobe is a blue silk organza peek a boo dress. This trend can be used for younger girls to the disco or for a middle aged lady to cocktail evenings. It’s a great ‘turn around and look at me’ kind of dress when you enter any party.”

Agrees another city designer, Shweta Chowrasia, fashion director, Sparkles Fashion Studio, as she adds, “It’s a technique used to make a statement with minimal effort – be it the obliques or shoulder blades, whatever may be your spot that you want to highlight.”

Designer Susan Fernandes, Astara feels one must have an inherent knowledge of fashion, style and one’s body! There’s no point in wearing the latest fashion if it doesn’t suit you. By all means show off a nice creamy neck with a low cut dress, but leave the peek-a-boo cut away styles for girls with no extra flabby curves.”

Designer Namrata G shares, “A collaborative feel can be derived through colour. When style and the baring of body parts comes into play, colour enhances the look. So one can sport a bare shouldered look in a beautiful white or ecru lace. A solid black adds to the formal closure for the evening. A mix match can make the look very casual. A light pair of earrings or a choker will add to the required glamour. Team it with wedges, if casual or block it with high heels. I love racer back ensembles, just make sure you have shoulders to match the same. A racer back can never be too formal, it’s great for a sporty look or smart casual feel. It can be worn for fit gear, or for tops with denim shorts or fitted jeans. A perfect body is a must to sport the look at its best. The peek-a-boo look is a regal one when worn with elan. Remember to wear your hoops or chandeliers, before you step out.”
