Flower child's Texture Trove

Chennai Chronicle speaks exclusively to jewellery maven Shaheen Abbas on the re-launch of her jewellery line Flower Child'.

Perfectly imperfect,” says jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas introducing her line of gold-plated brass ornaments — ‘Flower Child’ — which was re-launched in Mumbai last month. Back by popular demand after a 7-year hiatus, Shaheen’s bold designs are already being spotted on fashion-forward and famous across the country.

Originally launched in 2004 the designer tells us that she took a conscious break from ‘Flower Child by Shaheen Abbas’ to concentrate on family and her fine jewellery designs. “I am thrilled to be back though! The response from family and friends has been wonderful!” says the other half of actor-impresario Roshan Abbas. And given that Shaheen’s inner circle includes award-winning fashion designers and stylists, including Masaba Gupta and Pernia Qureshi, Shaheen’s new designs have already been seen everywhere from the runway to the red carpet on celebs like Shilpa Shetty, Neha Dhupia, Swara Bhaskar and many more. The designing woman tells us that textures are the forefront of her avante garde designs “I am very particular about our textures because that’s what sets it apart. You will see a lot of play on different textures. I got obsessed with creating raw gold, not perfect but rather mismatched pieces.”

Stunning Shaheen works with artisans in Jaipur and brass and gold to create her original pieces. Expect fabulously unexpected pieces like shoulder-dusters with tiny jhumkas at the end, geometric-inspired rings, spikes on bracelets, chokers with beaten gold coins and more. The jewellery maven says “I feel the brand has to be an extension of my personality. I don’t do dainty. I adore strong pieces with rough edges and textures. If I don’t wear my stuff, then who will?! It’s like your personal style. And half the time if I want to wear something, then I create it!” We congratulate Shaheen on her new venture and look forward to new designs to be launched every 2 months. Next — noserings and brooches.
