From the naked dress to ones with plunging necklines, celebrities have never shied away from showing some skin. And with well-toned bodies like theirs, why wouldn’t they choose to flaunt it? While slits on dresses and skirts have never really gone out of style, the thigh-high slit is gaining momentum like never before. Major fashion influencers like Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner have sported the trend of late, sparking off a ‘leggy’ revolution of sorts.
“I think it’s a sexy look, without being too vulgar. The best way to style it would be to let the dress and legs do the talking. So keep your accessories minimal,” says city-based designer, Indrani Royan.
Quite a strong trend at the Grammy’s this year, Swift and other icons like Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Ciara and Carrie Underwood used their super sexy pins as accessories that turned heads and maybe even raised a few eyebrows. It was Swift who created quite a stir as much for her strikingly bold ensemble, as her win for album of the year. The singer stepped out in an orange bandeau bra top and a loud pink skirt with a slit down the front that showed off her long legs. She finished off her look with a multi-hued necklace by Lorraine Schwartz. While she was criticised for her choice of outfit, it also had an equal number of fans. In Swift’s words, ‘haters gonna hate’.. right? “At the Grammys, the slit seemed to be a recurring trend, but Taylor Swift’s exquisite Versace number got all the attention as it should have. Stunning colours and a unique outfit, as compared to several boring black dresses we saw, she was definitely a cut above the rest,” says Aditi Lal, a fashion designer based in Bengaluru.
Bella Hadid who was The Weeknd’s date choose a more elegant yet arguably the sexiest Grammy outfit. She wore a black Alexandre Vautheir Haute Couture number with huge slit and a plunging neckline that showed off her supermodel body. With a Bulgari cuff, diamond earrings and a box clutch completing the look, she had fashion watchers descending into a state of frenzied excitement.
Priyanka Chopra, who is making quite a splash out in Hollywood, also got in on the cheekily sexy look when she attended Elle’s 6th Annual Women in Television Dinner as a Guest of Honour in California. The star opted for a refreshing plain blue number with a tie up detail at the hips, by Vionnet. She teamed it with a pair of grey snake skin Louboutins and a black Rauwolf clutch.
