‘Mix’ it with style
This is supposedly one of the trickiest trends to experiment with this season but, no doubt it is one of the coolest. Mixed prints on your outfit is going to be one of the biggest trend this season. With the peak of summer heading our way, there is no better way to embrace the sun than by flaunting those prints. Our experts show you how to style this trend with ease.
This trend is a mashup of all the other popular prints. Designer Riya Kodali says, “A clever combination of all the prints that made heads turn during the Fall like stripes, prints, polka dots, flora — fauna prints and more, makes a smart look.” Riya shares that in this trend, one print dominates and the other one acts as an accent that compliments it, whilst mixing prints of different scales. This is one such trend that will last through Fall 2019 as well.
Designer Reshma Kunhi cautions, “It will look wonderful if you do it the right way and if you know how to mix them well or else one can make a blunder. I would like to mix bold floral prints with checks, stripes, tie n dye, polka dots and even smaller floral prints. In addition to print, try mixing materials too like cotton, chiffon, georgette, silk etc.”
An animal print will bring out the fierce beast in you but pairing it with a light toned print will soothe you down. Designer Sparsha KP, says, “I would style such a trend using an animal print skirt with a polka dotted top or a plaid dress with a trench coat of an abstract or floral print. Be bold and creative when it comes to mixed prints. Experiment with silhouettes and colours but not many of them.”
Reshma believes that one should stick to a neutral palate and complimentary colours. “Choose contrasting flowers and style them together. You must always remember to style your outfit to match your body type. If you are on the heavier side don’t use bold big floral prints instead try small colourful florals and mix them with checks instead of horizontal stripe as it will make you look more wider.”
When there is so much happening with your prints, accessories, should be toned down. “When you are going with the mixed print trend keep accessories to the minimum, just use a single detailed accessory like a metal or leather belt or a clutch,” she concludes
