Fall totally ‘flat in love
While showing off those toned calf muscles and long legs with pointed heels was the the ‘IT’thing back in the day, ladies have given their high heels some much deserved rest and are embracing flats in all ‘walks’ of life. We speak to experts and fashionistas to help you stay on top of fashion trends this year.
Well, finding the right footwear is a tricky game. What you choose can either add that finishing sass or can look like a point blank disaster. Renowned Sandalwood fashion designer Laxmi Krishna gives you the perfect tips. She says, “The universal issue is to how to pick comfy footwear. Jeans are the perfect blank canvas to work with. They can either be dressed up or down. Choose from ankle boots with a zip, faux fur and stud detailing for a rocky, edgy look. For those busy weekends with kids, choose some slip ons or lace up canvas shoes as they are not only comfortable but choosing different prints and patterns can add a bold and fun look to your outfit.”
Styling flats for office isn’t hard Laxmi says, “Team your coloured chinos with a pair of classic ballerina pumps. Choose different colours, textures and detailings as there’s one for every day. Another style that looks great for work and play is brogues. They look great styled with rich coloured chinos or leggings for a quirky look that is a bang on trend.” And for a casual evening she adds, “You can go for a jumpsuit as a quirky alternative to a dress. For such a bold outfit you’re going to need some bold and daring shoes. Court shoes is a dream match for a jumpsuit.”
While flats are most tall girls’ best friend, Sunitha Ramachandran a fashionista speaks about tips for short lasses. She says, “As a petite girl you might be flooded with compliments of looking younger than your age. But, what about the flip side? A dainty woman has a small body frame and must find appropriate flats. It is a common misconception that platform heels can give you the sexy look you need, rather it only adds bulk to your tiny feet.”
Explaining the dos and don’ts of thistrend is designer Shriya Joshi. She says, “Getting the right size shoe is essential. Know the different types of flats available and choose according to your outfit. Have a variety of flats so you can have a ‘go to’ for all kinds of outfits. Always remember comfort is the key. Keep at least three outfits in mind before buying a pair of flats so it’s cost-effective. Don’t buy something just because it looks pretty. Keep your body type in mind before buying selecting footwear. Don’t buy similar type of flats and opt for variety. Experiment a little with the types you might want.”
