Whipping up a culinary storm
Food connoisseurs are in for a treat thanks to the MasterChefs Australia judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston who are in Bengaluru to give the city a taste of the World on a Plate. Local city chefs from 30 restaurants like Toscano, Smally’s, Sanchos, Caperberry etc are whipping up a culinary storm this Sunday.
Speaking about the nouvelle cuisine extravaganza today, Bengaluru boy Kiran Soans, ceo, Gold Rush entertainment shares, “The weekend promises to be exciting as the masterchefs take city fans on an exciting and inspiring culinary journey at JW Marriott and UB City. Besides the food offerings, June 5 will also see competitions where head chefs from restaurants from across the city will compete in a cook–off with the wining dish being decided by Matt, George and Gary in a blind tasting. The winning restaurant shall be awarded the title of the Restaurant of the Year.”
Goutham Balasubramanian of Toscano who is also participating in WOAP alongside 30 eminent city chefs is keeping his fingers crossed, “Local is the new global so we’re using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients instead of using fish from North America, tenderloin from Brazil or sticky rice from the south east. We are presenting Bangalore Buratta, roasted beets and bresolla salad with balsamic red radish cress, Arbi and mint ravioli with butter sauce, sage and pinenuts and Kerala red rice green pea risotto with minced spinach.”
Matt Preston states, “I love a variety of textures and flavours. But I don’t like the way budding chefs experiment with Indian cuisine and add western influences. I love Indian food as it is.” Gary Mehigan adds, “The diversity of India’s food palate is fascinating. I’ve been gorging on appams and idlis from the time I’ve landed. I want to learn to make appams and its one dish I can eat all my life.”
George Calombaris signs off stating, “My favourites are jalebis and vadas. I will consider my job done if I see smiles across faces of guests at the World on a Plate food festival.”
