Bake healthy, eat guilt-free
Everyone gets fascinated with home-baked goodies and when they are healthy, they are at their best. Bakers in the city are not just catering to the taste buds but also to health like an Instagram page called Ushbakeistan who makes cookies for lactating mothers.
“Lactation cookies are something that I started using for myself and they have helped me to a great extent since I was making it with supplement ingredients which are not easily available and the cons are very effective. That's when I thought if it could help me then it will surely help other mothers as well and that's how I started making cookies called ‘Make More Milk’ which is a delicious snack for breastfeeding mothers and it's gluten-free and eggless!”, explains Usha Seetharam, home-baker and has an Instagram page, Ushbakeistan.
Usha is famous for her delicious Chocolate salted Caramello cake and vegan carrot cake where this vegan carrot cake is completely made of carrot. It also can be made out of wheat and jaggery instead of sugar which is actually healthy.
“My mother is a big inspiration. I always play with recipes to have a healthier version of it”, adds Usha. She took part in an event organised by Home Baker’s Guild in 2011. After intermittent breaks, she has ventured full-time into baking for the past one year.
Moumita Roy, Owner of Mixed café explains, “The concept is to serve healthy, fresh food using locally sourced ingredients with flavours that will suit a wide variety of palates. The biggest strength will be to provide nutritionally balanced food with transparent labelling of calories and nutrients”.
All the food that is being made is from home-made ingredients which have nutritionally balanced food products, including in choosing protein supplements with the salads. Every item is made fresh daily and no refined flour or refined sugar is used in any item.
