Get away to Goa with Sara

As business-savvy celebs share their life passions and open up their homes, the general public get their moments in the limelight with the stars

Has actor Sara Ali Khan taken up an alternate career? Well, in a way, yes!

Sara, who enjoys travelling, and is known to have taken several spiritual trips across the country, will be curating and hosting a wellness retreat in Goa along with Airbnb Experiences.
“Goa has always been a place of calm, where I can unwind, practise yoga and connect with myself,” says Sara. Leveraging her love for the state, which is often regarded as the ultimate party destination, she says, “The wellness retreat will inspire travellers to explore the tranquil side of Goa, where yoga and wellness will be the focus.”
The actor took to social media to give a glimpse of the lush resort situated in Nerul, a village in North Goa’s Bardez district. Groups of four guests can participate in the experience, which will include yoga sessions led by Sara. They can sample some of her favourite healthy meals, including sprouts-based salads, hummus, sautéed vegetables, grilled fish and chicken. Guests will also be given some of her memorabilia as takeaways.
As per the Airbnb website, Sara’s guests will also get to explore the jungle-inspired property as they relax and rejuvenate.
Earlier this year, actor Janhvi Kapoor opened the doors of her family’s exclusive estate in Chennai on Airbnb. The home was bought by her mother, the late Sridevi. One bedroom and bathroom of the property are available to guests selected by Janhvi. They will also get to sample an authentic South Indian meal including her favourite ghee podi rice and palkova. Some lifestyle hacks passed on to her by her mother will also be shared.

Airbnb Icon category

It includes 11 celebrity properties across the globe. Shahrukh Khan was one of the first to partner with Airbnb in 2020, opening the doors of his luxurious home in South Delhi’s Panchsheel Park to guests. Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh has also listed his Goa home on the site.
Brand consultant Indraneel Mukherjee says this is an enterprising way to generate extra income. “After all, they have invested in the property. While the message by itself needs to be good, it always helps to be delivered by a known, reliable and looked-up-to messenger. That way, there is implicit assurance. Isn’t that exactly what good celebrity endorsement is all about?” he says, adding, “The common man also always strives for that additional, maybe passive income, doesn’t he?”
“Celebrities now are very smart when it comes to their finances, unlike the stars of the past who revelled in exclusivity and were not so clever with their money. Given the instability of showbiz, it is a good idea to make hay when the sun shines, knowing very well there is a star-struck and aspirational public who would love to be part of their world in some form or the other,” says a brand manager.

Preserve its heritage

A few years ago, Sara’s father Saif Ali Khan bought back his ancestral property in Pataudi from a hotel company. The Pataudi Palace, spanning 10 acres, which is used by the Saif’s family as their vacation home, boasts of 150 rooms, including seven bedrooms and seven billiard rooms. The actor revealed that he wanted to preserve its heritage, and as per his grandmother’s wishes, never rent the house as a hotel. “I am very proud of it and I take care of putting the money I earn from the movies into the upkeep wherever I can. It’s sometimes given out for shoots which helps in its upkeep and we only spend a couple of weeks here, as and when. It is a great source of serenity and peace in my life, it is a home I look after, with my mother,” he had revealed.
Even those who are not too keen on actually opening their homes to the public give grand virtual tours of their premises in collaboration with publications as well as channels. From Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s exquisitely designed home in Mumbai to Shalini Passi’s grand property in Delhi, audiences get to live vicariously through their favourite celebrities and take inspiration for their own living quarters.
