Dengue claims three more lives in Kovai
COIMBATORE: At least three more persons including a four-year-old girl suffering from dengue fever died at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) here on Thursday, even as the dreaded fever has claimed 12 lives in all in the last two months.
In a severe bout of dengue, Puspalatha (4) of Pollachi, Pramod (20) from Tirupur, and Thenmozhi (22) from Hosur died at CMCH. As many as 52 persons are getting treatment for dengue fever now at a special ward of the hospital. On Wednesday, three persons had died of this fever in CMCH amid 12 cases reported from the city since August 1.
Informed sources said as many as 46 cases of dengue had been reported till July 30, whereas 42 such cases had been reported during June this year.
When contacted, corporation Chief Health officer, K. Santhosh Kumar said, “many patients from various districts are getting treated at the CMCH. According to the data available with the corporation, only 12 persons are infected with dengue in the city.”
Though the Public Health department officials claimed that anti-dengue operations has been intensified at additional areas of the city, a sudden outbreak of fresh dengue cases has been reported from around the city.
According to corporation sources, sanitation of newly added areas of the city comes under corporation control. But the Health department takes care of public health issues.
Lack of coordination between them has led to the dengue outbreak. “In the corporation area, we have been conducting periodic dengue checking camps” said civic body staff.
