Biocon sets eyes on diabetes, to hold 45 camps in Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, over 3,000 patients will be screened across 45 camps.

Bengaluru: To commemorate the World Diabetes Day, Biocon, which entered the diabetes space a decade ago, has planned a nationwide patient-support programme and diabetic detection camps across 86 cities.

“Last year, over two lakh people were screened and nearly 25,000 participated in a comprehensive six-month diabetes education programme delivered by trained educators,” said Mr Partha Roy Chowdhury, Head of Metabolics, Branded Formulations, Biocon. This year, the team aims to screen half a lakh people.

“In Bengaluru, over 3,000 patients will be screened across 45 camps. The screening starts from Thursday. Some 3.50 lakh patients have already benefited by Biocon's diabetes care helpline, while nearly 3 lakh patients have received support through the insulin therapy assistance programme aimed at better patient compliance to insulin therapy,” ,” Mr Chowdhury said.

Through its ‘Winning with Diabetes’ programme, Biocon will partner with medical professionals to educate people with diabetes on self-help methods, including monitoring of blood glucose, exercise, dietary routines and helpful tips. It focuses on creating awareness on diabetes management and leading a healthy life through lifestyle modifications.

He said, “The programme aims at bringing together various stakeholders of diabetes, through technology and traditional means, to drive diagnosis, treatment and adherence, while keeping the patient at the centre. We also operate a toll-free helpline, which handles queries from patients using our insulin products. Also, our CSR arm, Biocon Foundation, has been working at increasing diabetes awareness among marginalised communities through diabetes camps. Our camps witnessed over 6,000 visits in 2016.”
