5 reasons your hair is thinning

Here's what you can do to prevent it.

When your scalp is healthy, your hair will be more luscious.

Everything your hair needs to grow is in your scalp, like hair follicle that sends nutrients from your blood. Therefore, hair thinning occurs when you scalp is not healthy.

Here are some of the reasons for these issues, according to a report by The Sun.

1. Age:

Hair follicles start to degenerate as you get older. This is an issue for particularly for men as they have a chemical called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes the hair to dwindle and die. For women, a drop in hormones leads the hair to thin.

2. Stress:

There are three phases to hair's shedding cycle - growth, rest and shedding. When you are stressed out, the shedding phase speeds up and cause you hair to look thinner than it normally does. Returning to a place of calm will help your hair to return to normal.

3. Smoking:

Toxins from cigarettes damage the hair follicle and cause restricted blood flow. When the blood is restricted to the scalp, the hair is prevented from getting vital nutrients, which not only damages your luscious mane, but also leads to hair loss.

4. Diet:

A diet lacking in certain food groups, vitamins and proteins will cause issues with your hair. If you restrict yourself from eating your body will ration protein where it needs it the most and your hair is not high on that list.

5. Weight loss:

The body could interpret weight loss as a sign of physical trauma. This causes it to store food and direct it to organs that require it, making your hair not a top priority, which could lead to the damage.
