Summer skincare
As the scorching summer rolls around, the skin cries out for help. The peak of the summer, known popularly as ‘Kathiri Veyyil’ or ‘Agni Nakshatram’, is scheduled to set in in the first week of May in the State. The excessive heat and humidity cause rashes and sunburn, a stubborn tan and acne, among other problems.
"It’s essential that you up your skincare game before the start of scorching summer," says Dr. Aishwarya Selvaraj, founder, and chief consultant, Skin Envy, a skin clinic. Aishwarya insists that the best skin care tip for the summer is hydration. "Increase your water intake, eat food that has high water content. Cucumbers, watermelons and muskmelons are great options to get that glow from within,” she says. She warns against hot showers and skipping the moisturiser. "Using lightweight hydrating moisturisers is the best option," she shares.
Dandruff is another common issue that people face during summer, because of excessive sweating. Extreme heat makes your hair dry. At high humidity, hair is weaker and more likely to get damaged, and break. Humidity allows sweat to evaporate less effectively, and sweat can trap bacteria, excess oil, dirt, and pollutants. These can quickly build up on your scalp and weaken the scalp barrier. "To keep your scalp clean, use a mild shampoo and wash your hair often," Dr Aishwarya advises.
Celergen supplements are also very helpful during the summer. Celergen is a potent nutritional treatment that stimulates the human body's natural healing powers. "Celergen is an amazing supplement for your skin and overall health. It helps repair your skin and delays aging and hydrates skin from within. It also improves joint health and immunity," the doctor adds.
