Bengaluru: “I have ensured that we take an antidote for dengue. It is better to be safe than sorry,” says 55-year-old Alpana Mukherjee, who has been taking the medicine along with her husband. She’s not talking about an antibiotic, or allopathic tablets, the kind we pop when we have viral infections, but homeopathic pills. Increasingly of late, many dengue-afflicted patients are turning to homeopathy.
At a time when the city and the civic authorities are grappling with the occurrence of dengue fever, homoeopathy has come up with a promise of prevention.
Dr Sudhir Babu of Javaji Advanced Homeopathy in Indira Nagar has been witnessing clients coming in for the dengue antidote. “People ask for some cure to keep the disease at bay. We do in fact have medicines to help build immunity against the ailment,” says Dr Sudhir. The dosage is generally for four to five days and is taken daily.
Homepathy of late has found a foothold in the healthcare industry, with many people going in for these medicines, be it for viral flu, asthma and other ailments. And now dengue. A recent study conducted by IMRB International across Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Kolkata, shows 90 per cent of people perceive homeopathy as a trusted form of treatment and its usage is higher than any other form of treatment. As per the survey conducted among the general public it was found that 100% of people are universally aware about homeopathy and 92% perceive it as a ‘reputed’ form of treatment. People use homeopathy mainly for backaches, gastro problems, skin and hair ailments. Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) in their recent publication on dengue also suggest homeopathic interventions for Dengue Fever.
Dr William Boericke’s Pocket Manual of Homeopathic Materia Medica and Repertory whose preface was written by Dr William Boericke himself in San Francisco in June 1927, mentions Dengue Fever. On page 924 of this pocket manual, Dr. William Boericke has listed twelve (12) medicines for Dengue Fever, which clearly indicates that this type of fever was known to homeopathic doctors even in 1927. The medicines he has listed are Aconitum Napellus, Arsenicum Album, Belladonna, Bryonia Alba, Cantharis, Cinchona Officinalis, Eupatorium Perfoliatum, Gelsemium, Ipecacuanha, Nux Vomica, Rhus Toxicodendron and Rhus Venenata.
