Twilight, breaking a healthy run!
As the sun goes down, Bengaluru is all set to rise up, put on their running shoes and run the country’s first ever Twilight 10K trail! As opposed to the early starts at marathons, this one-of-a-kind run will be a sundowner and will even see DJs from the city spinning live music to pump up the kicks on February 25 at Orchid Nirvana.
City folk are always excited to try something new and getting a huge dose of evening cardio seems to fit the bill perfectly. “I got into fitness recently and this is different from hitting the gym. The sheer novelty of the run is what interested me,” says city-based designer Mike Romero.
For others who aren’t early birds, it’s the time (the runs start from 6 pm) that’s catching their attention. “I’m not a morning person and I don’t do marathons at all. But when I heard that this one even had a 5K run and that it was in the evening, I had to sign up,” says 22-year-old Maya Kurien, a law student. The 10K trail will be followed by a 5K run for freshers with a wide array of food to dig into soon after.
The news of the run travelled to radio listeners earlier this week as fitness trainer and Zumba expert Shwetambari Shetty and celebrity sports nutrionist Ryan Fernando dished out details on the Indigo 91.9’s The Fitness Hour.
Ms. Shetty will also host a free, post run Zumba session for those who are still game! Ryan also gave us pointers for before and after the run – “Participants should be wary of having a heavy lunch as it takes two to three hours to digest.
Your pre-race meal should consist of a smoothie and/or a sandwich at the maximum. Sip on coconut water or a sports drink one hour before the run,” he suggests.
Ryan, whose clients include the likes of Olympic medallist and wrestler Sushil Kumar and cricketers Shikar Dhawan and Harbhajan Singh amongst others also lets us in on another favourite tip – “Include a lot of purple cabbage post the run to help you reduce soreness in the muscles. A hearty protein breakfast and a high-carb cheat meal on Sunday should seal the deal,” he says.
