Experts: Chemo has decreasing results
HYDERABAD: “No matter how many times one administers chemotherapy, it is like the law of diminishing results. You see 1 in 14 people who have benefited from the same,” said Dr Raghunadharao Digumarti, a medical oncologist while speaking at the 15th BioAsia Summit in Hyderabad. The summit dedicated a day to the research in cancer and the breakthrough methods of treatment that are now available.
Immunotherapy was hailed as the new reality of cancer treatment. “You will have to either beat or kill the cancer cells. If not they will build a resistance in your body. This is why immunotherapy which is the stimulation of one’s immune system will help fight the disease, which is important. With genomic samples, we can see a tumour tissue and study the microbiology of cancer therefore there is hope for better cure”, said Dr Raghunadharao. He also stated that by such close observation, one could understand the genetic mutations that led to the disease and also the exposure to drugs.
