Young doctor aimed high; makes it to AIIMS
KOZHIKODE: Hard work and perseverance put in by Thiruvambadi native Dr Akhil Baby has brought him the eighth rank at the AIIMS PG Medical entrance exam, announced on May 13. After completing his MBBS from AIIMS, New Delhi, his love for the institution prompted him to give it a try for the PG there. Around 50,000 doctors appeared for this nationwide exam for various specialities.
His choice is radiodiagnosis that focuses on the use of radiation, ultrasound and magnetic resonance as diagnostic therapeutic and research tools. “The major reason why I opted for radiodiagnosis is its easiness to work even though academic-wise, it is tough,” said Mr Akhil, who is now waiting for the counselling next month. He will be competing for the three seats in this genre. He completed his high schooling at Infant Jesus English Medium School, Thiruvambadi, and Higher Secondary at Sacred Hearts.
From SSLC he has managed to keep his academic graph up scoring top marks. For the AIIMS medical entrance for MBBS admission, he was ranked 22nd. “I am glad to crack it at the first attempt itself, and it proves hard work and dedication pay dividends. I would say the AIIMS is the best medical institution which gives the students all freedom to study and work. We have never had academic or work pressure," he said. His father is the office superintendent at Devagiri College here, and mother works as the headmistress of Thekkumkattil School, near Mukkam.
