Excess gadget usage causes stress: Expert
Hyderabad: Stress will be one of the major problems we will face in the next few years, and according to Dr Harold Stossier, technology is the culprit.
Dr Stossier, founder of Viva Maria Wellness Redefined, and a panelist for the discussion on ‘Up close and personal: Wellness Redefined’ at enGendered Dialogues 2.0, was asked by the moderator Fatima Karan: “In a time when we are trying to be parents, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and lot more, is there balance at all?”
He replied, “We have more stress complaints among people only because people have started neglecting their sleep for their phones and gadgets. People should not neglect sleep; instead they should just switch off their cell phones and other gadgets after 10 pm no matter what.”'
Responding to the same question, Megha Mittal, a businesswoman from the fashion industry, replied, “Email really stresses me out because we have to be available all the time and if I have any pending mails to reply to it always lingers in my mind until I reply to those mails. Due to which I switch off my phone from 6 pm to 8 pm every day to spend more time with my family and kids. I told my husband, too, to finish all the calls while he is heading back home.”
Philanthropists Natasha Poonawalia, transgender and social activist Laxmi Narayana Tripathi, stand-up comedian Sundeep Rao, author Shobaa De, businesswoman Megha Mittal, and Tollywood actress Laxmi Manchu participated in the event held at Trident Hotel on Tuesday.
Speaking on the topic ‘Saying What No One Dares to Say’, novelist and columnist Shobha De said, “It is mandatory for me to speak up. I feel a sense of responsibility that I have the ability to do something and I am obliged to do it and no threats will stop me. If women are given a chance or are in a position to take decisions in policy making, our lives would have been much better. It is the responsibility of the state government to provide the facilities woman needs, especially safety.”
Leading business tycoon, human rights activist, philanthropist and Islamic scholar and founder and CEO Heera Group, Dr Nowhera Shaik, who was invited to RGE Summit said, “In this fast changing world women should enter untouched fields such as international trade and make their presence felt.” She said economic empowerment of women is necessary for the true development of a nation.
