Here's why many vegans are adding meat to their diet
Health and ethical reasons have made going vegan a popular trend over the years. Going vegan means consuming no meat, eggs, cheese and milk.
Research has shown the diet helps decrease the amount of saturated fats, cholesterol and sugar amounts the body consumes. It also aids weight loss and decreases risk of cardiovascular and kidney issues.
However, health experts have found many people who are on this diet are going back to adding meat to their meal, according to a report by the Daily Mail. This is because of issues with weight gain and dull energy.
Many meatless alternatives contain substitute ingredients that include soy, MSG and mold that are processed.
Dietitian Maria Bella told Daily Mail she quit the diet because she felt unhealthy eating all the fake meat products. "I felt horrible and was eating so many fake meat products that one day I sat back and realized just how horrible my diet was," Maria Bella also told the Daily Mail.
Nutritionists are seeing a surge of people moving away from veganism due to feelings of fatigue and bloating.
Vegan burgers often contain MSG, which is a flavour enhancer. But one serving contains 10% of the body's salt intake. Too much salt can cause high blood pressure and heart issues.
The body also requires protein and nutrients from other sources, the report stated.
