Windy Bengaluru for three more days!
Bengaluru: Bengaluru had a dry and windy start to the weekend on Friday, with winds blowing at around 23 km per hour in the city. With dust billowing more than usual on the roads, cars had their windows rolled up and two -wheeler riders firmly kept their face shields down to avoid it getting into their eyes.
But pedestrians, who had no such defence, protected their faces with scarves while making their way down the streets. With strong gusts of wind blowing in the afternoon, stores along many roads were seen getting sand off the clothes on display or hurriedly taking them inside. And foodies may need to stay away from open street stalls for a few days as the dust isn't going to go away soon, going by the meteorological department.
Though an inconvenience, the windy weather is quite normal for this time of the year , according to Mr Sundar M Metri, director of the department. "The dry and windy weather experienced by most parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru at the beginning of this weekend is absolutely normal. If you see the reports there have been winds in other areas as well and not just in the city. The windy weather will continue for at least another three days," he said.
Caused by high atmospheric pressure in a particular area, such high winds were quite normal for this time of the year, he explained. "The winds are flowing from the western side due to an anti- circulation created in the northern India, which is pushing the winds down south. This has been happening for years," he added.
While Friday was rough, the winds are expected to increase to upto 24 kms per hour before falling to 20 kms per hour by Sunday.
