Dil garden, garden ho gaya

Two local youngsters are providing smart solutions to all your gardening woes in Bengaluru.

You’re a gardening enthusiast who loves the activity, yet often fumble and give up mid-way when it doesn’t turn out right. But would you let go of your favourite hobby if you had an app that would assist you in the art of gardening?

Two enterprising youngsters Mayukhini Pande and Mani HK provide a ‘smart’ solution to all your gardening woes. The duo has launched a company called Greenopia that has come out with a smart gardening kit and a mobile app that helps gardening aficionados in providing some green sheen to their space.

“We are giving green thumbs to the urban young generation through product design. We have a self-watering mini herb garden kit which gardens itself. When youngsters are busy travelling, they don’t have to worry about hydrating their plants for five to seven days,” says MayukhiniPande, co-founder of Greenopia.

They also have a product called ‘grow love’ comprising a desktop planter, which will encourage people to grow plants on their desks. “Apart from the potting mix, the kit will comprise an air cleaning plant - which will clear your air of toxins,” adds Mayukhini.

The duo also used crowd funding two years ago and raised a whopping '9.8 lakh for their innovative smart herb garden. “We have added sensors to it and you have to use a mobile app which tells you if the plant is getting enough sunlight, water etc. For now, we are shipping it only to those who have funded our venture,” reveals Mayukhini.

A lot of people think gardening is a stress buster, so won’t their app take away the experience of ‘real’ life gardening? “We did actually think about this and that is why we didn’t create a fully automated design. Gardening takes a lot of persistent effort and many people drop out mid way. So, our app assists them by taking away the frustration of learning. It acts as a guide to people during their planting journey.”

For someone who is originally from Bhopal, Mayukhini, who currently resides in namooru, is a huge fan of the city. “It’s one of the most green aware cities in the country. There is a citizen consciousness here, which appreciates the value of having green around them. Also, It’s a very start up friendly city with an active start up community here, which helped us a lot. This is my soul city!” she says.
