Meet the man who lives on a floating island made of plastic bottles
Richart Sowa not only managed to build an island using 150,000 recycled plastic bottles but has also been living there for years with his partner and pet dog. It took the 63-year-old seven years to create his eco-friendly residence which he calls Joyxee Island.
Sowa’s floating paradise is located in Isla Mujeres Bay near Cancun city in Mexico and has a three-storey house with two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. His house has all the amenities that are expected from a modern home like an internet connection, rain collection equipment, solar panels for electricity, two ponds, a solar-powered waterfall, a small connecting river, a wave-powered washing machine and a even Jacuzzi.
Sowa’s unusual island gets plenty of visitors who give donations in exchange for a tour around his private island. “Living on my own floating island has been my dream for over two decades. I would recommend this way of life to anybody,” says Richart Sowa, according to Gazette Live.
