THRISSUR: A bride who tied the knot at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple took off the ‘magalaysoothram’ after 10 minutes and sought the permission from the bridegroom to elope with her lover who had turned up for the wedding ceremony.
The bridegroom and his relatives were stunned at the unexpected turn of events after the wedding ceremony on Sunday. Meanwhile, the parents and relatives of the bride made last ditch effort to salvage the 10-minute-old marriage by taking the bride to the auditorium near Guruvayur Temple where the lunch and reception for the newlywed were arranged.
But, as the bride was firm on her decision to go with her lover who had reached the temple to witness her wedding, the relatives of bridegroom entered into a heated argument with those of the bride. The verbal duel late turned to a free-for-all fight at the auditorium and Guruvayur Temple Police interfered. The bridegroom from Kodungallur sought a compensation of Rs 15 lakh towards wedding expenses and in the presence of Guruvayur Temple CI Sunil Das the relative of the bride, who is from Mulassery in Thrissur, agreed to pay '8 lakhs within a one month’s time to the groom.
“The cops reached the Rukmini Auditorium and intervened in the issue to prevent a law-and-order issue. The bridegroom given me a written compliant as well. So, I held talks with the both the parties and the matter is almost settled now,” CI added. Though there were allegations that the bride was in house arrest for a few days before the wedding, CI said that police did not inquire into such issues considering the sentiments of the parents of the bride.
