Sister act for their little brothers

Raksha Bandhan, the festival that celebrates this unique bond is all about how the brother protects the sister.

The bond between a brother and sister, is like no other. From scraped knees and blame games to fiercely defending each other in public — the bond certainly lasts a lifetime!

Raksha Bandhan, the festival that celebrates this unique bond is all about how the brother protects the sister. But today, more and more elder sisters are stepping up and playing the role of the protector in this relationship!

It’s all about pampering for designer Seema Malhotra! “Sameer is around six years younger than me and I have always felt very protective of him. I still tend to pamper him a lot. He’s crazy about riding and leather jackets, so now, no trip abroad is complete without buying him a designer leather jacket that’s one of a kind!” admits Seema.

“But I think it’s the bond that we share that’s the most special. We have always been there for each other and I know that I can count on him no matter what. And now, even though he is so much younger, I don’t feel the age difference because we have both matured and share a very similar understanding,” shares the designer about her brother Sameer Malhotra.

For Bengaluru-based designer Ravina Belani, her relationship with her brother Aditya Sondhi has nothing to do with age! “It’s the bond we share that carries more weightage with us. The age difference between Aditya and me is 11 years, but he’s still the protective one in this relationship,” admits Ravina.

“When we were younger, I used to pamper him to no end and let him get away with a number of things! In fact, I still love pampering him, but he doesn't like it very much any more. He tends to get embarrassed now,” shares the designer with a laugh.

Every relationship has its fair share of fights – from giving each other black eyes to making up for it with an abundance of chocolate! “I've punched him and Gourang has punched me back, and we have flung things at each other,” says Radhika Pandit casually.

“But at the end of the day, we come back to each other. Even though I'm elder to Gourang by two years, he’s the protective one. He still holds my hand when we cross the road. He’s the one I always go to for advice because he’s always calm. That’s something I truly admire about him – he never gets worked up and always manages to remain composed in every situation. And as opposed to everybody else, he isn't afraid to give me his honest opinions! If I've acted badly or look bad, he’ll say it openly!” says the actress warmly, about her brother.
