Daddy's first steps

On Father's Day, we talk to first-time dads in the city, who share their journey and precious little moments with their bundles of joy.

He’s your super hero! On Father’s Day today, we meet these first time fathers who have the coolest jobs in the world. No we ain’t talking about their high flying careers. They might be the jet setter dads, but that doesn’t shy them away from making a sincere attempt at etching memories of a lifetime for their babies.

They’re the dads their kids will always look upto. While some dads are like buddies you can joust and compete with, others are rule breakers or risk takers and then there are those who are commanding and disciplined.

But then there are so many who will do anything for their babies and are completely hands-on; like Arpita Khan’s husband Aaryush Sharma who is a doting dad to his son Ahil and so many others.

Fathers and daughters share a bond that is both tight and intangible. And that is exactly what Salil Agarwal, investment banker and father to a 10 month old princess named Samara believes in.

“When the nurse handed me this tiny baby in my arms at the hospital, I had no idea how to react. I believe I had a rollercoaster of emotions, that made me want to hold this little human forever and protect her for the rest of her life.
Fatherhood has completely changed me and my life. Everyday there is that eagerness to come home to this smiling baby, who loves you unconditionally because you are her ‘Dad’ - something I never felt before. I feel pride in telling people I have a daughter. It makes me look forward to something every day in my life. I feel responsible to give my daughter the most valued thing according to me – my time. In today’s hustle bustle I don’t want to miss out being there with my daughter at every step, teaching her to be a good human and more importantly being fair and just,” shares Salil.

Another young dad who is over the moon on becoming a first time dad is Abhinav Gujjar, founder of startup called Tricog health services and father of Vigyan, a six-month old baby boy says, “I feel more responsible and have become a lot more aware in whatever I do. I am taking out more time for my son and am enjoying doing little things at home, like taking him for a walk, changing diapers and even giving him a bath everyday. I share the same responsibility with my wife Mallika who is also working full time. We take him for weekend trips to resorts around Bengaluru to introduce him to the beautiful nature. He also likes to see different animals. He likes our walks with him in the stroller and our two dogs jumping around him.”

Owner and founder of Green Haat and Green Theory, Bikash Parik is on cloud nine as he can’t get enough of the apple of his eyes, “My daughter Mavie is seven months old and being a first time dad is an overwhelming experience.

With great responsibility come great powers. I’ve been a workaholic but now the baby has taught me time management. We bond over playing and it’s wonderful as she has started responding to everything around her. We take her to parks and she also loves to play with our pet.”
