Eturnagaram jungle gets cycling, walking trails

People can now ride a 21-speed mountain bike deep into the forest along a specially-prepared 5-kilometre long route.

Warangal: The Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary, located near Eturnagaram village in Warangal district, has opened up cycling and trail-walking facilities for tourists, at Tadvai.

People can now ride a 21-speed mountain bike deep into the forest along a specially-prepared 5-kilometre long route. Along this trail, viewing locations have been prepped for sightings of spotted deer, Sambar and other wildlife.

Those who have walked the trail, are loving it. “Cycling inside a forest was a fabulous experience and I agree, this has become a must-visit location for any nature lover. My friends and I had a great time here,” C. Amulya, from nearby Warangal town, said.

The tourism department is also offering cottages. “Two cottages and six bicycles are now available with us. But we are ready to increase the capacity, according to demand. We are also planning to introduce a canopy walk-way here. Tourists can plan a two-day tour over the weekend to cover all the famous spots nearby,” Tadvai forest range officer D. Raja Rao told DC. The Eturnagaram sanctuary is one of the oldest such reserves in Telangana state. It was declared protected in 1953 because of its rich bio-diversity, spanning 806 sq.kms.
