A time for eccentric tripsters
We have all at one point in time, envisioned jet-setting off to a picturesque locale and letting go — of the mundane nine to five, discovering ourselves and starting up ‘afresh’. Looks like the plan is panning out just right, in Sachin Bhandary, a 34-year-old Bengalurean entrepreneur’s case. The ‘Old Traveller’ decided to plunge deep and let loose — only to conjure up a project titled, “The 12 Project” back in the year 2015 with an intend to take up 12 challenges across 12 countries in 12 months. Fast forward to 2017 and the travel-preneur is back at it through his venture, Eccentrips. But this time, to help youngsters take more purposeful trips. In a candid chat, Sachin shares the inside track...
“It has been a dream to see learning-based long trips become a part of our education system in the future,” begins Sachin, who’s venture, Eccentrips, enables Indians to take affordable, long term trips with an insight. Enthusing about the same, he says, “It’s difficult to point out one thing which inspired me to start-up. But yes, I think I am most inspired by people and places. To find myself waking up in an alien town, observing and learning about people, their culture and what motivates them is probably my biggest inspiration.” While Bhandary doesn’t really support numbers when it comes to travel, he adds,” I prefer to measure my travels in friendships, things I learnt and memories I cherish. But my passport has visas or stamps from 23 countries. At the moment, I am travelling in Russia with my mother. Travelling together, abroad, is something we try to do every year.”
While he believes it’s too easy to speak up about his recently mushroomed venture, the intrepid voyager wishes to bridge the gap through his concept. “I’m looking at building this idea up, so that it is perceived to be feasible for those on a budget. Also, while doing the 12 project, I faced a lot of challenges which I’m hoping to reduce for others.”
Understandably, the intent and the innate passion for travel is what his life revolves around. But again, the cycling enthusiast asserts how he makes time for his other interests. “Reading, learning new things and public speaking are my other interests. I always make time for Yoga and love cycling. I learnt rock climbing, capoiera, and salsa while travelling. So, I try indulging in these activities whenever I can.”
Giving us a peak into what lies next on the anvil, Sachin concludes by stating, “ There are so many myths about travelling, exploring and starting-up that’s floating around. I wish to have open talks with young Bengalureans and give them a deeper idea of the real picture. Giving birth to a venture isn’t about the money, it’s about the fire in your belly. I hope to hold free sessions to pep talk the talent here!”
