A Fanatical Shindig
Beyonce showed just why she’s Queen Bey with her Alice in Wonderland-esque Easter tea party for her daughter Ivy. Nina Dobrev’s rung in her 27th with an emoji-themed bash, while Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen went all out with an Olympic theme to bring in their digits. It’s alright if you didn’t hear about Ariana Grande’s Harry Potter themed birthday bash either because you can attend one of your own, here in the city! Bengaluru loves a good party, and what better way than to add a nostalgic dash of excitement with themes?
City folk wore the love for their superheros on their sleeve at a Batman Vs Superman themed party recently and that’s not a one off event. “The eternal battle between fans has always been on who is better and we got to show it off with everything from arm wrestling matches to props,” says Shreyas Teja, a city-based software professional. It’s not only about dressing up for the occasion or meeting people just like yourself that’s adding to their popularity.
“You get to relive the lives of characters too,” says Nilisha Singh. The young lady who went to a Friends theme party in the city with six of her friends was all praises for it. “We didn’t know what to expect, but there was a photo booth, quizzes that kept the crowds engaged and a flash mob that even re-enacted Ross and Rachel’s famous routine! We even got posters as takeaways,” she adds.
It’s this difference that is seeing people jump in on the trend. “People want to break away from the monotony. It is exciting and larger than life,” says Avinash Byanna, owner of The Lost Caravan, who recently attended a black-tie themed event in the city. To ring in the first anniversary of his establishment, he decided to go with a theme, himself – that of a circus. “W even gave away prizes to those that wore the spirit on their sleeve and showed up a clown!” says the 28-year-old.
So, what’s seeing Bengaluru unite for these theme parties? “It’s all about playing on popularity and nostalgia of what we wanted as kids,” opines DS Aman. Organising theme parties across the city, the 23-year-old believes that Bengaluru loves to party and is always looking for something different. “The most important variable is of course the fan base. After the Friends theme, the next one is a Harry Potter-themed party on April 8 and another with a Game of Thrones theme on April 23, both at Indigo Live Music Bar. We even hope to turn the venue into Hogwarts and distribute wands for starters,” he tells us, letting us in on the party. What are you waiting for? Bring out your party hats…or masks, capes, wands or whatever else it is.
