They say waste not, want not, and there’s one young lad who’s single-handedly proving how true that adage is. With the intention of minimising the wastage of food, 22-year-old Swapnil Kova, a student of the Institute Of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, has launched the #My_Plate_Is_Clean campaign, as part of which he’s encouraging his friends to post pictures of their polished-off plates of food on their social media profiles.
According to Swapnil, on an average, nearly 30 per cent of the food people serve themselves, at educational institutions and at home, is left uneaten. Through his campaign, he wants people to be cognizant of this wastage, and thus avoid it. Though it may seem like a small, insignificant move, Swapnil believes that tiny drops of water make a mighty ocean. The pilot project that he’s launched in his own college has been receiving considerable appreciation and support from the student fraternity.
“I strongly believe that by embracing such campaigns, we can be at the forefront of social development. I request everyone to nominate one or more friends for the #My_Plate_Is_Clean challenge,’’ Swapnil says. “We have linked this campaign with Friendship Week, which is the entire week that precedes Friendship Day. That will mark the end of the pilot project at our college,” he adds.
Swapnil has had banners, selfie booths, stickers and labels designed to get people interested in his campaign.
