Pedal slowly, relish iconic spots

There's no better way to spend your Sunday than cycling around the city's landmark locales, as a part of the Bangalore Bicycling Brunch tour

Picture this: You kick start your Sunday morning on a saddle – peddling away through some of the most iconic spots in namma city – clubbed with frequent pit stops to satiate the gourmand in you. Sounds like the perfect way to a retreat? If yes, it’s about time you squeal in joy!

Calling all those who share a common love for cycling, guzzling and re-discovering the beauty of namma ooru; the Bangalore Bicycling Brunch Tour is an upcoming bi-monthly tour, which aims to get you to switch your bike mode on. We chat up with young folks, who tell us more…

“Central Bengaluru is beautiful and symbolises the real face of the city. The idea is to scroll through some of the treasures, worth celebrating – with references to iconic buildings, gardens, a cosmopolitan population and pub culture. What better way to experience the local scene with active experiences than by unraveling the essence of Bengaluru through a cycle tour?” shares Gauri Jayaram, one of the core members behind the initiative, which was founded by the Active Holiday Company.

The cycling activity will have Bengalureans traversing through some of the most popular spots of the city: Vidhana Soudha, Cubbon Park, Ulsoor Lake and the like. Open to all age groups, the idea is to get people to say yes to fitness, infused with a slew of fun-filled activities like sight seeing, trying local cuisines and even gluging down a mug of beer or your favourite brew.

And it clearly seems like Bengalureans are looking forward to more than just the gala cycling tour ensued by a stopover at some popular eateries for quick bites and drinks. Opining about the same, entrepreneur Uday Prakash says, “I’ve always been passionate about anything that’s got to do with cycling. And I believe such events bring people from different walks of life together. On a broader level, it fosters feelings of togetherness, better communication and tolerance.” But that’s not the sole driving force. The fact that the idea enables people to take a break from the clutch is another attractant. “For someone who’s been a part of several bicycling tours, I can say for a fact that such activities only contribute to a healthier you and environment! Also, it’s always a refreshing change to re-discover the city from a different light. Because, there really is a world of difference to perceive a place from a saddle and behind the wheels, wheel shifting gears,” concedes Jayaram Parames waran, a travel enthusiast and outdoor activities entrepreneur.
