Screening out the screens

A new platform called Kloh is becoming increasingly popular among Bengalureans looking to escape their devices and engage in offline activities.

Urban isolation is a real and increasingly emergent phenomenon. It is sought to be alleviated by recreational activities like workshops, stress busters, ice-breakers and more. These activities are designed to foster a bond between like-minded people. To this end, Nitya Tiwari decided to work towards building a real outdoors community away from computer and mobile screens. Her venture Kloh, organises and hosts experiences meant to facilitate real-life interaction.

Kloh aims to discover and build upon the best hyperlocal offbeat experiences. These experiences — crafted by local experts’ — straddle domains like food, travel, sports, dance and music. Nitya, says, “The Kloh platform stands for ‘Know Locals Offline Here’. We focus on structured information about each experience to tell the story. This platform ensures that the experience providers meet certain criteria before being onboarded. This is to assure our users of the best possible quality.”

The genesis of Kloh lies in Nitya’s dissatisfaction with current ‘entertainment’ options. “I love meeting new people rather than whiling away time in pubs or movies on a boring weekend. While travelling to Europe, I happened to join invigorating activities that we in India did not have access to. With this thought in mind, I undertook extensive ground work for six months and developed an experience platform relevant to India. The idea is to have people go out more, try new things and meet like-minded people. Our experiences are created such that there is no need for small talk and to ensure that no one is sitting in a corner.”

Entrepreneur Yugeet Adlakha opines, “It is more of a community where people from all across the country residing in Bengaluru come together, not just to have fun but to also co-create something great. Never being a fan of night life led me to attend these events. People come here without any inhibitions. They get connected as friends and develop a lasting bond.”

Sagar (name changed) says Kloh helped him deal with a difficult period in life. “I needed friends after my divorce. Kloh helped me to connect with like-minded people through activities. I finally started doing things which had long been on my bucket list. This helped me embrace my life once again,” he confides.
