Teacher animates innovative learning
Kozhikode: Muhammed Basheer, a first standard teacher at Sethu Sitaram ALP School, Elathur, has developed an animated CD textbook in English featuring movies and games. Named Candy Kids, it has been approved by the State Institute of Education Technology as a teaching tool for lower primary classes. The official distribution of Candy Kids, which had already won accolades across the state, would begin on Saturday with lower primary schools in Malabar. It consists of more than 300 games and movies besides workshops and activities, all designed and directed by Mr Basheer.
“The CD is an outcome of my four years of research. I am happy that primary schools will start using it soon,” he said. "The goal was to transform learning with a tool accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status. Digital intervention has opened doors to significant qualitative improvements in education." Researchers have proved the game-based learning can improve reading and numeracy, he feels, and provides essential skills for turning young children into lifelong learners. It will mostly benefit students struggling in typical school situations and tests. All the games are simple and enjoyable and hence teachers could quickly teach their applications. Palakkad DIET lecturer P. Nisha and teachers of Malapuram Cheruvattoor MIAM UP School helped him in its creation.
