A juggle-naut of many callings

Chennai-based Sangeetha Sundaram is not ready to give up on her multiple professions.

There is a fighter inside Sangeetha Sundaram – she cheated death when she miraculously escaped a major car accident three years ago. This amazing Chennai-based woman wears multiple hats with élan – HR professional, counsellor, actor, and biker. Her life has been like a roller-coaster ride, but she bravely managed all the ups and downs with the support of her family. The accident was what made her a stronger person. “I never thought I would come back to normalcy after the accident. Not a person to give up on things, I made up my mind to fight all odds. Because of my strong will-power, I healed within months and was back in action,” she says, adding, “It has been an exciting journey since then!”

A person who wishes to do multiple things, Sangeetha specialised in relationship management. She resigned from her job a few years ago and is now counselling cancer and stroke patients. “Initially, I thought that dealing with cancer patients would be difficult. But after a few sessions with them, I realised that not only do they need medication, but also someone to share their grief with. I met Neerja Malik, a cancer survivor, and volunteered with her for some time. I prepare patients for chemo sessions and always try to be with them during the treatment. All of my patients have become more than a family to me,” she says.

The multi-faceted lady is also not ready to give up her passion for acting — “I was always fascinated by films. I’ve done a few TVCs for some of the major brands in the city. I don’t run behind opportunities. If some offers are meant for me, they will come to me, no matter what,” muses Sangeetha. She has recently acted in the Tamil film Vinothan directed by Victor Jayaraj. “Victor saw my pictures on Facebook and asked me if I would act in his film. I agreed. More film offers are coming in, and I am looking for meaty roles,” she adds.

Bringing up a daughter as a single mother was not easy, but not too difficult for her, either. “I live in a joint family and it really worked for me. In an age where nuclear families are mushrooming in society, I strongly feel that such families will not help much in the development of a child,” says the mother who stresses on the importance of the joint family system, Sangeetha adds, “Though parents and children belong to two different generations and have differences of opinion, they are the ones who make us grounded. My daughter found comfort in my parents, and she could understand the emotional stability they give.”
