Canadian girl belts out Jana Gana Mana at Tambaram
Chennai: Ticking off four continents and 38 countries from the bucket list, 11-year-old Canadian girl delivered the Indian National Anthem at SOS Children’s village, East Tambaram maintaining the exact pitch and patriotism.
Visitors of the home including hundreds of students and organisers gave a standing ovation to the world’s youngest social worker.
India is the 39th country Capri Aliyah Everitt and her family has visited. The realtor family took a break from their career to accomplish their girl's dream.
Her goal took shape when she was reading the book called- ‘The world needs your Kid’ gifted by her aunt, which narrated the sufferings of poor and abandoned children.
I wanted to do my part for the unfortunate children,” said Capri, dressed in a Chudidhar with plaited hair.
After learning about the global service by SOS Children’s village, the family had planned for a world tour after Capri memorized the national anthems of 80 countries.
It feels so good to use my voice for good deeds. Achieving 1 million dollars for child care is my goal,” said the girl who is off the herd that believes in television music competitions like American Idol.
Why 80 countries? Capri’s mother Kerrie Everitt said that the numbers stroke her after a book called- ‘Around the world in 80 days.’
The interesting part is that the lass had not relied on Internet to learn the anthems, as she needed a personal touch. “I sought the help of my friends parents who belonged to various Diasporas. It not just benefited me to comprehend the meaning, but made my acquaintances recount their memories,” recalled Capri.
Citing an instance, Capri said, “I would not have known about the banned two verses in Germany ‘s Anthem if I had depended on the Internet.”
Capri has finished a school project on the history of national anthems that helped her for the cause. “Besides accentuating the integrity and patriotism, national anthem is something that reaches every citizen in a multicultural nation like India,” said Kerrie.
Indian National anthem is girl's favourite and she thinks that it's very catchy.
While her mother Kerrie Everitt does the planning about the visits, her father Tom Everitt spreads the message about her work through social media. Her younger brother Bowen works on developing the blog about Capri.
The family, which had covered Asia, North America, South America and Australia, will embark Europe and African continents.
