Bengaluru also known as the Silicon Valley of India is the third most populous city in India with 12.34 million inhabitants in 2017 which rose from 8.5 million. People from various walks of life choose Bengaluru as a prime destination to relocate to. Four-digit salaries, stable jobs, scrumptious cuisines, cozy apartments and weekends filled with events. That is why most migrants are comfortable to call this their second home.
Shubham Mukhopadhyay from West Bengal is a market research analyst and is working since two years in Bengaluru. He views Bengaluru as the city of opportunities. He says, ‘The place I reside is close to SEZs which is filled with young crowd. Most of us are fighting the same battle and hence there is a sense of understanding and compromise. Most of my friends in the city are my security blankets that help me deal with the cabbies and cops woes.”
With good pay scales and less family commitments Shubham does not have to worry much about his expenditure. Speaking about the assets of the city he highlights the weather, varieties of alcohol, transportation facilities and the enthusiastic spirit here. The drawbacks of the city are traffic snarls; water logging, absolutely insane lane discipline and the cost of living (especially the rent advance payment). Shubham adds, “Having spent eight years away from home in different states, food is never an issue for me. Love the variety and amalgamation of traditions I get on my plate.”
Aienla Aier from Nagaland who works as a content editor moved to this city a year back for her job. She says, “I was shocked on the very first day of house hunting, two landlords refused to show me the house because I was from the North East.” She also adds, “Apart from this incidenct, I’m quite attached to the city because of the warm people I meet here. As a part of my career, I have moved to Bengaluru. Being a complete foodie, there has never been a shortage of options be it in terms of restaurants and cuisines. However the public transport system needs to improve.”
Aien also said she uses 60 per cent on herself as there is no financial burden in terms of supporting family so she is relatively a free bird. Aien is lives her life to the fullest with a flamboyant lifestyle.
This charming city is filled with eateries, fun zone and many entertainment spots. Arun Kumar from Hyderabad, has been a corporate employee for a year and a half and says he hates the landlords here. He says, “Better career options motivated me to move to Bengaluru. But the rent structure in the city is what I cannot cope up with. I believe most of my salary goes in the high rental that I pay, besides eating out. I am unable to save much as I have family comittments too.” But by and large, the positives outweight the negatives, which is why most youngsters prefer to live and work in Bengaluru.
