A heart'y affair
A person who loves to burn the midnight oil for art’s sake, Lekha Washington, is in the city to showcase her latest design projects — Old Love and Nature of Things. The former, which is an ode to the nature of monumental relationships, is a dynamic sculptural piece by Lekha; a 15-foot iron ball filled with helium hovering in the mid-air!
The former VJ says it calls out to the things that we may feel would hold us back, but sometimes set us free. It creates the kind of art never seen before — a combination of visual wizardry and profound meaning that can only be created by taking material application to the next level. “It is huge, heavy and very dramatic! The installation is a take on relationships — mainly long-term like the one between husband-wife, siblings, and parents-kids. These relationships are both grounding and liberating at the same time. I’ve created a gigantic rust ball floating with no support, it is suspended in the middle of the space,”’ says the artist/ actor, who creates post-surrealist works.
Her other project is titled ‘Nature of Things’ — comprising three sculptures and each piece is a reflection of who we are. “This is my second exhibit of the series. All the sculptures exhibited have related themes. It explores the current state of our relationships with nature, and vice versa,” sums up the Kalyana Samayal Saadham actress, who is thoroughly enjoying three full-time careers!
