A popular quiz among the student community in India, the Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz, 2017, witnessed 65 teams from colleges and universities across the city fight it out for an all expense paid trip to Sweden.
Three students from the Nalsar University of Law Lokesh Kaza, Aakash Puttige and Vishnu Sumanth won the Hyderabad leg of the quiz and are now preparing to win the national finals, which is set to take place next month. Organised by the Embassy of Sweden, the students answer questions on Nobel Prizes, Nobel Laureates, Sweden and its culture, Swedish innovations and inventions.
“All of us have a quizzing background, so we were able to win the competition. The girls from St Ann’s College for Women gave us a tough competition. In the top six, we were somewhere in the last. The final round was a buzzer round and that is where we came back strong. The competition at the national finals is going to be even tougher,” says 22-year-old Lokesh, who is pursuing his final year in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law.
Students from 11 cities will take part in the finals. “I read a lot, watch movies and have a knowledge of history, politics and more. So quizzing has been a platform for me to incorporate what I experience. It has been my passion since my childhood and I hope to make Hyderabad proud,” says 21-year-old Vishnu, who is also in his final year of BA plus LLB.
Aakash adds, “The quiz is easy because we know the topics beforehand. The fact that all of them know it too makes it tough,” says the 21-year-old, fourth year BA plus LLB student.
While Aakash and Vishnu plan to work for a law firm after completing their education, Lokesh wants to pursue his interest in sports law.
