Kids' gigs set the mood

The kids will perform popular covers, classic rock hits and even original tunes.

Our city that boasts of talented tykes will see them take centrestage at the Children’s Day Live Music Special tonight. Watch out for live performances by children below 18 years with a pop rock band and several other talented vocalists and instrumentalists at Bflat. The kids will perform popular covers, classic rock hits and even original tunes.

The thought behind the musical gig, says jazz artiste Arati Rao Shetty, is “to encourage, celebrate and applaud our children, and watch them as they present their musicality, songwriting and performance skills on this occasion.” Rohan Raveesh, (14) a student of St. Paul's English School, JP Nagar who is performing at the show shares, “I started learning to play guitar at the age of six. I started the band called Symphonic Eternity in 2014, but came out of the band this year to perform as a solo artist and guest artiste in a few bands.”

I play my original songs and have been writing songs since I was 10. I play rock and progressive metal and my songs bring out the situations kids go through in their lives, but everyone can relate to my music. Sunday is going to be special as I’m performing two new songs written by me. One of them called Every Child’s Angel is being recorded and released soon and the other new song is in Sanskrit and English.” Another girl promising serious fun is Mia Aliyah Makhija. A student of Mallya Aditi International School, Mia (13) says, “I started learning music when I was nine. I formed my own band last year. I like to put a spin on my music with jazz and you can expect the unexpected!”

This insanely talented group of kids has been rehearsing for hours together and promise to blow your mind away. Karan Pinto (14) from Mallya Aditi states, “I’ve been singing in choirs and started playing the guitar when I was nine. I’m also part of Bangalore Children’s Chorus and the founder member of Shock Democracy band. We started playing together in 2013 and have performed at various gigs. For this show, it’s just Arjun and me on guitar and vocals. We love rock music and vocal harmonising, so we’re doing something light and breezy.”

Alisha Machani, (16) from Greenwood High International School says, “I started learning guitar six years ago and plan to put up some good music at Bflat tonight.”

Catch the Pop Rock band Fleeting Glimpse comprising Tarang Joseph, Ashwin Sriram (16), Siddarth Verma (17), Surya Kalyanaraman (16) and Ketan Gupta (17). Thomas Tarang Joseph (17), GEAR Innovative International School says, “I started learning classical piano when I was six. Ashwin Sriram and I formed the band and started with Classic Rock and now make Progressive House and EDM influenced rock. We will be performing two of our compositions and songs like Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.” Other kids taking to the stage are Arjun Barua, Anika Desai and Manou Rao. Kaya Rao-Shetty (16), a student of Inventure Academy whose voice has a blues undertone adds, “I’m performing solo tonight. I’m inspired by my mother (Arati Rao-Shetty). Be it pop, country or rock, I make it my own to show my individuality and it turns into a blues song. Music lovers can expect a raw performance, as I perform from my heart.”
