Following moolah rouge

26-year-old CEO Apoorva Sadanand talks about life at the top, her weaknesses and strengths.

When 26-year-old Apoorva Sadanand told her father that she wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer, she was asked to reconsider her decision. “My dad had such a busy schedule. He had no time for family, friends or anything else he wanted to do for himself. That talk with him really changed the direction of my life,” begins Sadanand, who is now the CEO of a natural handmade cosmetics company, which was founded by Ahalya Mathan. Having just taken their business online and currently in talks with Channapatna craftsmen to introduce innovative packaging, the young lady has a lot on her mind, but still finds time to do the things she loves.

“I enjoy swimming and hitting the gym. Work is a lot of fun too. The factory is like my second home,” she says, adding, “Sometimes, when I am not meeting clients or travelling on work, all of us have lunch together. It’s a very friendly environment.”

While she thoroughly enjoys her job, she admits her social life is something that has taken a backseat. But like almost all her decisions in life, she has no regrets. “I’m not really a person who likes going out and partying everyday. I have had my fair share of parties and wild nights out, but I’m quite happy with my life as it is now,” reveals Sadanand, who makes it a point to dine with her grandparents, who also happen to be her neighbours, regularly.

Talking about how she turned CEO for Areev at such a young age, she says she always admired Mathan and when the perfumer approached her for the job, she couldn’t refuse. “Every time I was faced with a beauty problem, my mum and grandma would suggest natural home remedies that never failed me. So Ally’s (Ahalya’s) offer really struck a chord with me. Plus, it is a job that gives me the option of prioritising my time and doing other things that I care about,” she explains. And what are those other things, we asked. “My family and I often visit orphanages and spend time there. What these kids really need is people to talk to. And that’s something you can do only if you have the time. I also enjoy travelling, and this job takes me places that I love exploring,” signs off Sadanand who is next off to Bali on work.
