Sketching enthusiasts in the city had a field day at a ‘Sketch Walk’ organised by Hyderabad Trails on Sunday. A group of 35 people walked the stretch from Saidanima’s tomb to Rudrammadevi statue on the Tank Bund road. The tomb and statue also happened to be primary subjects for all the sketching enthusiasts.
The walk was initiated as a means to experiment with art, says Gopala Krishna, organiser of the event and Hyderabad Trails member. “Sketching is a good way to observe and appreciate a monument because you notice all the little details that usually goes unnoticed,” he says. The reason they picked the Saidanima tomb is to help it regain its prominence.
The group were guided by two professional artists — Rohit Merdoddi, a lecturer at JNFAU and Srikanth Ramashetty, an art director and architect. Giving insight into what he taught, Rohit says, “I taught them expressions of drawing and how to capture the glimpses.”
The participants were all excited and gusto about this opportunity. Sachita Aditi Sharma, a freelance artist, says, “This is the most productive way to spend a Sunday. I also gained a lot of experience watching and interacting with all the experienced artists.”
One of the participants, Lalitha Panduri, who happens to be a professional Tanjore painting artist, was happy to have gotten this opportunity to sketch.
