The hatke Calling Cards
Gone are the days when people only aspired to be doctors or engineers. Today, more and more people are taking up completely new and unique professions that they are incredibly passionate about, which also keeps them happy! We talk to a few such people who are doing something hatke to understand their field and passion they feel for what they do…
For Animika Singh of Anandini Himalaya Tea, it was all about believing in one’s heart and mind. “We have people who are making crafts cheese living up in the mountains, having their own farm. Tea tasters, coffee tasters, whisky sommeliers. I was born to be a tea sommelier. It not only gives me the opportunity to understand each day more and more about the two leaf and a bud, it also helps me educate and help people make a healthy choice in their day to day living. The ease that comes to the faces of the people who sip a good cup of tea, cannot be replaced by the satisfaction I would get from any other job or creating anything else. I love to travel, and I do get to travel in my work. I love to interact and meet new people and that's precisely what I do when I conduct my workshops," says the professional tea taster.
Anant Sathyanarayanan, a Tamil speaking game whiz is currently in the United States of America. And getting a very fat bank balance every month, for doing what he absolutely loves to do and is very good at. He gets paid to game! Infact, the whole day is spent working on games, trying to reach the highest level, in an attempt to make games more interactive, difficult and interesting. Now, who wouldn’t want that? Getting paid to goof around on your gameboy?
Clearly, doing what one loves seems most important to people today. Another such lad, RJ Raaj is making waves across the city with his “Green Embassador” status. “For as long as I can remember, I have been eco friendly. In my growing years, I have plated trees and helped in saving water but now want to help make a change,” says Raaj who works with the Save Trees foundation.
“I am invited to colleges to give lectures and perform, so now when they invite me, I say I will only come if they plant a certain number of saplings. That’s my only demand and it seems to be working!” says Raaj who has managed to plant around two thousand saplings so far!
