Kirik Party actress and dancer Samyuktha Hegde is one muser (yes, that’s what musical.ly users are called) who entertains her followers with spunky videos. From lip-syncing to dialogues from Band Baaja Baraat to dancing to Sudeep’s film songs, she does it all. “It’s a fun app which helps me keep my mind refreshed.
I choose what to post based on whatever’s trending or the music that I like. You can link it to other apps like Instagram too,” says the artiste, who did a hilarious dubsmash with her Roadies co-star Gaurav where they lip-synced to SRK-Kajol’s famous “cheater” dialogue from Kuch Kuch Hota Hain.
Actress Nanditha Swetha is another celeb who has jumped onto the app’s bandwagon. “Initially, when I started off, I was told not to do it because I was already an actress and that the app was meant for beginners who want to join the industry. But some of my followers really enjoyed my posts. I wanted to continue doing it because it gives me joy and relaxes me,” she says, adding, “One of my videos of a song called ‘unna pathathum thadamaarure’ was shared by many Facebook users. I’m trying to get better — I love experimenting and through this app, people can connect and do duets with celebs too.”
There are also those who’ve become Internet sensations, thanks to this app.
Dancer Disha Madan is one of those pretty ladies whose posts are a rage with youngsters. Currently, a social media influencer with a following of 395k on the app, she says, “I was barely at 4,000 followers on Instagram before I started using musical.ly, but now the number is over 290k. One of my videos called ‘Lean On’ went viral and a lot of people started following me. There’s actually a lot of hardwork that goes into creating these videos.”
Thanks to her online popularity, Disha’s also been offered quite a few movies and TV shows. “But I’m not really inclined towards acting at this moment. I also have brands reaching out to me, but I don’t want to accept anything and everything, so I hand pick them. I even get invited to college fests as the guest of honour,” says the muser, who’s overwhelmed by the responses she gets from her admirers!
