Sofa' so good for newbies!
Moving to a new city is very daunting. Students and youngsters find it difficult — because their pockets are not too deep, and accommodation woes or adjusting to a new environment is always a difficult task. These college buddies decided to address accommodation woes with Boriya Bistra, which provides furniture at economical prices. Ashwin Agarwal, Rishav Singh, Shubham Jain and Kanak Kundlia, former students from PES University are doing their bit to help people break into city confines with this.
“The four of us were friends in college and have studied engineering together. In our first year, we saw students rushing to the market to buy basic household items. When we joined college, it was difficult for us to settle down in the city as well. We had to go to the local markets to fetch basic hostel essentials which was a chore. After graduating, we all worked in a MNC for a year. We quit our jobs and decided we should do something for students while addressing this problem. We provide them the necessary items needed to furnish an apartment,” says Ashwin Agarwal, the 26-year-old founder of Boriya Bistar.
The zeal to have their own firm was always there. “We did not have the slightest idea of how to start a business. Having our own business was always on our mind. Yet, we did not know what to do and it all happened with time. We mastered everything and it was a learning process. As we are from engineering backgrounds, it took us six-seven months to get it going full-fledgedly,” adds 25-year-old Kanak Kundlia.
They have tied up with colleges and companies to furnish rented apartments for newcomers. Rishav says, “We are trying to provide a solution to the problems that students and bachelors face. Shifting to a new place is cumbersome and having the basic stuff is most important. Our USP is swift delivery as we deliver the ordered items the same day, or within two hours. Most youngsters want immediate help so we never compromise on that.”
They provide an array of items that will help make a home in a new city. Shubham adds, “We have received good feedback from the young crowd in the city. We have a huge customer base including working couples as well. And we are right now planning to expand to Pune and Mumbai. Similar to Bengaluru, Pune is the next hub for students. So, we are extending to these cities as well.”
