MAHE: Soon, anyone from Malabar can learn the French language- the mother-tongue of 80 million and spoken by 274 million people across the globe- from the best in the business. Alliance Française, the French language and cultural centre in Mahe, is offering learning courses in the French language for the public. The Centre will also start DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) course in Mahe which is the certification of French-language abilities for non-native speakers issued by the French Ministry of Education. The Centre will also offer classes on French cuisine and French music soon as part of their expansion projects. The DELF course, which is 80 hours long, will commence from April 18 at the Alliance Française situated at Mundock in Mahe and is being led by Course director Jean Baptiste Vandome.
The classes are conducted based on scientifically designed international-level syllabus. At present the learning courses are conducted only in the Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi centres of Alliance Française. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Alliance Française de Mahe Treasurer Varun Krishna said that the classes would start in batches with the first batch having 20 people. “The course is of three months duration and conducted in different batches so that students, employees, scholars etc can join to learn French,” he said. Alliance Française de Mahe is also planning an expansion by adding more French books to the library, screening of French films, French music, French colloquium, exhibitions and translation services soon.
