A silence seeking rath' race!
Bengaluru’s youngsters are proving that weekends are more than just parties and dinners. Night outs are a popular ritual with a lot of the city’s youth who desperately need a break from the urban buzz, even if it is just for a few hours. Spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment plans are the way to go, as these youngsters tell Bengaluru Chronicle.
Night drives are a great option for those who wish to avoid the traffic and usual city buzz. As Sam Varghese, an associate business lead says, “The most obvious selling point of a night time drive is the sudden widening of the roads when they are devoid of the day’s traffic. Driving through the orange-lit roads with your favourite music playing in the car is a very relaxing experience.” Swastik Saxena, a wedding planner feels that these drives are a great time to catch up with friends, without having to silently suffer the bustle of the city. “We mostly visit Nandi hills, but off late we have been frequenting the BTM Lake, which is probably the most peaceful place for us.”
These instant trips are wonderful stress busters, keeping them sane for the rest of the week and craving for more such experiences. Pallavi Venugopal, a Media Studies student notes, “I don’t have a fixed day or timing for my night outs. I may go out on a Tuesday or even on a Saturday! It depends on what I feel at that point of time.”Weekends, especially Saturday nights falls naturally as a perfect night to drive off into bliss. Swastik adds, “Leave after 11pm and head back by 7-8 AM after having a good breakfast!
Deepa George, a fitness trainer enjoys the thrill of being with her friends through the late night to get a cup of chai. “Nandi hills, NICE road and Kempegowda International Airport are some good spots to visit at night.” Deepa tells how these night time drives can have those perfect, filmy, moments. “Once we went on a long drive to celebrate a friend’s birthday and ended up cutting the cake in the middle of nowhere. It was a special experience for all of us.” Sam adds, “My preferred destination for these drives is usually the Kempegowda International Airport. The waiting area outside the terminal literally never sleeps and is a hub of undying bustle. Chilling at the terminal is almost like travelling around the world, considering the diversity of people that transit through there.”
Belinda Sober, an International Business student believes in not having a destination set in mind. “When we leave it’s really just for the nice, long drive and the relatively new experience. Catching a sunrise is a bonus.” The best part, Belinda says, is that there is no traffic and the weather is cool at night. “It’s really cool when you have a holiday the next day so you can sleep in for as long as you want.” Pallavi says, “My bunch of friends usually accompany me on these long drives. We usually grab a chai and something small to eat. Cafes
like Rasta, CCD and Empire Restaurant cater specifically to night lovers like us!”
Truly, the city never sleeps. Catching a break in the midst of all the rush to breathe and relax with their best buddies, motivates these youngsters to live their nights.
