Nostalgia kicks in...
We must all agree that school life is something that we will never forget. We will always remember the friends we made, our favourite classes, teacher and especially the canteens. The saddest part is leaving all this behind and joining a new place. But, college too comes with its perks. The freedom it brings, various clubs you can join, new friends and much more. In a chat with some youngsters who have just finished 10th, we find out the best things about school and their expectations for college.
For Karen Danita Issac, the thing she will miss the most in school will be a circle of friends. She goes on to add, “One of the best things for me in school was spending time with friends as I felt it was the only thing that was fun. I have started researching about various colleges in city and the courses they offer and also the career options for each course. The plan for now is to take up PCMB. I think college will be a totally different experience with a lot more fun and freedom. I guess college will have a lot of different clubs like culture, sports, art and music, but since my interest lies in arts and music, I would love to join such a club.”
Some of the people we meet in school will teach us life lessons and teachers are one of them. Kashish Chandani adds, “The atmosphere that we had in school can’t be compared to anything else. Not just in terms of friends, the teachers we had made us feel safe and were always there to help us. My English teacher is the one person I would miss the most as she remembers me and treated us like friends. I want to do commerce in college. To prepare for it, I have joined a summer course. I think college will be more chilled out as grade 10 was stressful. I want to meet a lot of different people and being a sports enthusiast, I want to play sports in college too.”
The friends that you make in school are the ones that will stay with forever. Stuti Singh says, “I miss my friends the most and the experiences we had by being in the same class and learning new things. And, our canteen's samosas. Even people who have graduated still come to get a taste of those samosas. Ms Krupa was my English teacher and she made grade 10 a lot more exciting for us. I have done some research and tentatively would like to do commerce in college. I hope college is going to be easier than school and that I meet more mature people in college. If there is poetry club then I would love to be a part of it.”
School trips to various amusement parks will be highlight of an entire school year. It was something that we waited for all year. Shradha R Abraham says, “Spending time with friends was something that we looked forward to everyday. School trips are also one thing that I will miss. My friends and I used to eagerly wait for these trips every year as it was a break from school. Things may not be as strict in college in terms of rules. College should have a lot of fests and extracurricular activities. In college, I would love to be part of the cultural team.”
