Look cool, feel cooler
What to wear this summer? This is no longer a problem that troubles people with a fashion sense alone. The soaring temperature is compelling every normal person to think twice about the outfit they should wear on a particular day. It is not about how much you spend on your clothes, but about dressing smart and wearing the right clothes to beat the heat. Shorts, dresses and sleeveless clothes are considered ideal for the summer. However, nowadays the temperatures are so high that exposing your skin to the sun’s rays may invite problems like UV damage and heat rashes.
“The ideal clothing choices for summer are loose pants, palazzo or long skirts with sleeveless tops or tea shirts,” says Sajini Pallathu, fashion designer and owner of Saveri Boutique. “Having said that I would like to add that those who are particular about wearing sleeveless tops should not forget to use a good coat of sunscreen lotion before stepping out in the sun. One can also team up the sleeveless top with a light weight shrug with floral prints made of a breathable fabric. It not only protects you from sun, but also enhances the whole look of the attire. One should also choose the fabric wisely. Cotton, linen and other breathable fabrics are the best available options that will help your skin to breath, thus making you feel relaxed.”
Sajini adds that pastels are a safe choice which are always in the trend and are widely preferred by many as they do not make you feel heavy.
However, fashion designer Alka Hari, who has recently launched her label that mainly consists of daily wears, is of the opinion that pop colours are very much in during the season. “It is not surprising that nowadays people are ready to experiment and that their fashion sense is shifting from the conventional colours and silhouettes. Loose pants and straight cut pants are one of the most comfortable outfits that one can opt for during summer. These can very well be teamed with appropriate tops in order to be worn as work wear and casuals.” Alka says that if you are not comfortable with sleeveless dresses, bell sleeves, balloon sleeves and other loose fitting styles can be the best option for you.
Those who prefer wearing kurtas to work should go for lighter ones and try to team them up with loose pants, advises Sajini. “For those who are ready to experiment and like adopting new trends, culottes, pants and palazzos teamed up with formal shirts in flowy material are great options,” says Alka, who adds that women should try not to wear body-hugging clothes like leggings that make you to sweat, which in turn leads to itching and rashes.
Both the designers are of the opinion that these tips can be used by plus size women as well with slight changes according various body types.
Who says dressing up according to the season is only important for women? Men, too need, to deal with the sweltering heat. The latest fashion trends for men include light weight shirts in neutral tones and floral prints in linen or cotton teamed up with shorts or comfortable pants for casual look. However, when it comes to looking formal, men can’t run away from getting dressed up in full sleeve shirts tucked in to formal trousers.
The scorching summer sun can cause you to sweat, get dehydrated and even break out into a heat rash. However, minimal dressing up and a little care for the fabric you choose can help you stay stylish throughout the summers.
