Modern ideas, Indian value
Ram Koti and Padma’s home in the clean and serene gated community of Aparna County in Miyapur seamlessly blends innovative modern ideas with simplistic values of an Indian household in classic harmony.
Although the structure was built eight years ago, this two-storied house with a total area of 3,600 sq ft and a built up area of 580 yards was redesigned when Ram Koti bought this place. It took them three months to redesign. “I wanted a bigger house as my two children, Saathvik (11) and Samhitha (8) are grown up now and needed spaces of their own,” he says.
We are welcomed into their living room with a beautifully concealed walnut shelf which has been adorned with idols of dancing Ganeshas. “I told our interior designer Padma Somireddy to make the house clutter- free and provide adequate ventilation,” says Ram Koti. The designer, to keep with the theme, used a lot of whites and colours within the same palette. To provide adequate ventilation, she pulled down a few walls and chose glass windows instead.
The children’s bedroom on the first floor has been designed based on inputs given by the kids themselves.
“ Both the kids had specific requests. While Saathvik preferred a lot of blues in his room along with a bunk bed, Samhitha wanted pink. I was liberal while using these colours, but done keeping in mind the overall look and the aesthetic appeal,” says Padma Somireddy, interior designer.
Also, to keep a check on the clutter in these rooms, Padma divided the wardrobes into two compartments vertically — one to stack the good looking earthy items for display and the remaining inside a closed glass shelf.
An IT professional, Ram Koti also runs a dental clinic he manages from home and thus a compact office space has been incorporated into the house. However, the one corner of the house, the family prefers to spend most of their time is the deck in the backyard. He says, “The deck provides a spectacular view of the sunrise. We meet here in the morning with our coffee mugs and newspapers to enjoy a peaceful start to the day.”
