A responsible Modak operandi
Ganesha habba is the time to celebrate by offering prayers to the Lord of good beginnings and prosperity. And while many are getting ready to feast on a whole lot of traditional goodies, a large number of people are going eco-friendly. Some are even going beyond just making eco-friendly Ganeshas by planting them in their garden (the Ganeshas come with a seed that one can plant after immersion). Being environmentally-conscious is their mantra, in a city that surely needs activism to protect it. From creating clay Ganapatis to immersing Vinayaka idols at home instead of polluting our lakes, namma celebs are being responsible and doing their bit for the environment.
Actress Hitha Chandrasekhar is opting for a clay Ganesha with a seed in it. “You can immerse it in a pot and then a plant grows out of it. I’m planning to try this out tomorrow. Also, it’s a fun activity for a family to sit together and make a Ganesha at home and add the seeds ourselves. In a time where family members hardly meet and spend time with each other, this is another festive reason to come together and do something, plus its eco-friendly, so it’s a great option,” she says.
Shuddhi actor Ajay Raj is a strong advocate for immersing the clay idols at home. “This time, it’s even more special as we’ve made the idols ourselves. When it rains in namoooru next time, make sure it won’t flood your homes. We must use eco-friendly idols made out of clay and help save our lakes. To see the change, be the change!” says the artiste. Actress Samyukta Hornad’s family believes in giving it back to Mother Earth during the festive season. “You immerse the idol to pray to Mother Earth. My Dad always tells me that the whole idea of celebrating festivals is to use the resources that have been grown by the farmers. We immerse the Ganapati in a tub and put in in our backyard so that it goes back to where it came from. That’s what life is also about,” she shares.
Nikitha Narayan, who’s gearing up for the release of her flick Mugulu Nage, was part of a campaign run by Shilpa Ganesh, wife of Nikitha’s co-star Golden Star Ganesh. “I made my own clay Ganapati, so this time, I will be doing the pooja with my own creation,” she smiles.
