BUMP'ER announcements

Married celebrities are using social media innovatively to announce their babies...

This year is shaping up to be the year of babies, with more and more celebrities either giving birth or announcing pregnancies. The most recent birth was that of Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton’s third son. The baby’s birth was announced by Kensington Palace on Twitter.

In keeping with this trend, celebrities are sharing their special occasions very creatively by posting it on their social media handles. Shahid Kapoor shared a post on instagram of his little munchkin Misha lying next to four balloons with the words “big sister” written on top. Similarly tennis superstar Sania Mirza announced her pregnancy with a photo and captioned it simply as #MirzaMalik along with an emoji of a baby and a heart.

Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh announced the pregnancy of his wife Rukmini Sahay in the most adorable way. He added two posts on instagram. One of a man and woman holding a baby’s shoe, and the other is a drawing of a baby and a bird with ‘to be delivered soon’ written on it.

For Sandalwood actress Shwetha Srivatsav, the announcement of her pregnancy was a way to share a part of her life with fans and friends. She says, “Creative pregnancy announcements are much better as we have a more personal platform to connect to the audience, and being creative is a part of everyone’s life now, not just celebrities. Each one wants to share and celebrate such major events in their lives in a creative way. Nowadays, we have our own space on social media, where people can speak their minds and put across opinions. For celebrities, I feel we will have to be more responsible because so many people are watching us. When it comes to personal matters like pregnancy, it’s great to share and talk about them. There are a lot of misconceptions about women and pregnancy which we should be open-minded about. When it came to my pregnancy, I felt it was my responsibility towards followers and fans to make them aware of what is going on with me. I had been advised not to reveal the pregnancy until the fourth month. At that particular time, we were going abroad for a programme where they wanted to felicitate me. I felt this was the right time to share the news and also send out the message that it’s okay to travel during pregnancy, unlike what many believe.”
